Distance Measurement by trinamiX is based on the patented Beam Profile Analysis technology. Beam profile analysis is an active measuring principle, where the target object is illuminated with a light source (e.g. LED or laser). The reflection of the light spot is captured on a sensor and its beam profile is then analyzed. From the specific beam profile, we can calculate the distance to the measured object.
The fiber sensors from trinamiX realize the beam profile analysis in a particularly elegant way: the individual optical fibers absorb the light behind the lens and transmit it to single-cell photodiodes. To measure distance, it is necessary to integrate different segments of the beam profile. With fiber sensors, the integration and segmentation are achieved by arranging the fibers behind the lens and combining them on different photodiodes.
